Chemicals Lead Manufacturing in Value-Added Terms


The four largest manufacturing industries—computer and electronic products; chemical products; food, beverages, and tobacco; and petroleum and coal products—accounted for 50% of manufacturing GDP in 2013. The top nine sectors constitute 81% of manufacturing GDP and include both durable and nondurable sectors. These sectors accounted for 69% of total manufacturing employment, led by food, beverages, and tobacco with 13.6%.
