Industrial Fuel Use and CO2 Emissions Remain Below 1997 Levels

The industrial sector’s consumption of petroleum, natural gas, coal, and electricity was lower in 2013 than in 1997 despite growing output. The drop in coal consumption was particularly sharp. As industrial fuel use declined, so did CO2 emissions. In 2013, CO2 emissions were 18.2% lower than in 1997.

The reduction in industrial fuel use is significant. It demonstrates manufacturers' commitment to reducing energy consumption and forging a path for alternate energy sources. Increasing use of renewables and decreasing fossil fuel consumption are good indicators of manufacturers' sustainability efforts.
