Manufacturing Leads on Renewable Energy Usage

Manufacturing has long been a strong leader in the use of renewable energy. In 2013, the industrial sector used 2,234 trillion BTUs of renewable energy—as much as the transportation, residential, and commercial sectors combined. The latter three sectors, which started from a much lower renewable energy consumption base, are rapidly increasing their use.

Renewable energy provides an environmentally friendly means to power various industrial activities. The trend toward increased consumption of renewable energy will continue as manufacturers incorporate sustainability efforts into their long-term business structures and other sectors follow their lead.
